Latchi Marina

Latchi Marina is a small, well-protected modern marina at the edge of Latchi village, the working fishing port at the western gateway to the Akamas peninsula. It is the smallest of Cyprus' three main marinas (Limassol, Larnaca, Latchi) but in many ways the most appealing for a slow visit — a compact basin with around 200 berths, framed by the original stone-built fishing quay where small caique boats still come and go, with a row of locally-loved fish tavernas along the harbour wall.

The marina is the launching point for the Blue Lagoon boat tours that are the headline activity of the Akamas. Several operators run regular catamaran trips (around 25-35 EUR per person, half-day with swim stops at Manijin Bay and along the cape's western coast) and smaller skippered boats can be hired for private charter. The fishing fleet still works the bay every dawn; small daily landings are sold direct to the harbour tavernas.

What to do. Take a boat tour to the Blue Lagoon (the must-do Akamas experience). Eat fish at Yangos & Peter (the long-standing classic, family-run, queue at weekends) or one of the alternatives along the quay. Walk the harbour wall and the seafront promenade east toward Latchi Beach. Hire a small motorboat or RIB from one of the rental operators for self-guided exploration of the Akamas coast (licence may be required for larger boats).

Insider tips. Yangos & Peter is full at weekends; book or arrive at noon. The boat tour operators sell on the quay — pick by sailing time and price, the itineraries are nearly identical. Mornings have better light at the Blue Lagoon than afternoons. Parking is generous and free; the marina is the natural base for an Akamas day or two-day stay.

Combinations. The Akamas full-day from Latchi: Blue Lagoon boat tour in the morning, lunch at the harbour, afternoon Aphrodite Trail walk from the Baths of Aphrodite (5 minutes east). Or a slower two-day base: Latchi marina, Polis town, Avakas Gorge, Lara Beach. Latchi is the natural anchor.

Bring. Sunscreen, hat, swimsuit, towel, water shoes for the rocky coves on boat tours, cash for tavernas. When. May-October. June and September are perfect; July-August is busy but the bay absorbs visitors. Latchi Marina is the human-scale Cypriot harbour at its best — small enough to know, lively enough to enjoy, slow enough to actually rest.
