Latchi Beach runs east from the working fishing harbour of Latchi (also spelled Lakki) along the gentle coast of Chrysochous Bay, the long bay that wraps the western edge of Cyprus south of the Akamas peninsula. The beach is a long shallow strip of pale sand and small pebble, with calm water that is among the warmest on Cyprus by May (the bay is sheltered and faces north into the prevailing breeze pattern), and a relaxed family atmosphere a long way from the buzz of Ayia Napa.
Latchi village itself is a slow-paced fishing port with a small modern marina alongside the traditional quay. The fish tavernas on the harbour — Yangos & Peter is the most-recommended classic, but several others are reliable — buy direct from the morning catch and serve straightforwardly excellent grilled bream, octopus, calamari and the Cypriot fish soup. The beach has sunbed concessions, lifeguards in season, and a small watersports kiosk doing banana boats and pedalos. Boat tours to the Blue Lagoon and along the Akamas coast leave from the harbour.
What to do. Swim, eat fish, take a boat tour, walk to the start of the Aphrodite or Adonis trails (the Baths of Aphrodite trailhead is 4 km east of the harbour). Latchi is a relaxing base — a slow lunch, a swim, a coastal walk, repeat. Polis Chrysochous, the small inland town, is 5 minutes south and has a charming old-town square.
Insider tips. Yangos & Peter is full at weekends; book a day ahead. The beach immediately east of the harbour is fine sand; further east toward the camping area it shifts to pebble. Boat tours to the Blue Lagoon depart morning (09:00, 10:00) and afternoon (14:00); morning has the better light. Latchi is the natural overnight base for two or three days of Akamas exploration.
Combinations. Pair with the Baths of Aphrodite (5 minutes), the Aphrodite or Adonis hiking trails, the Blue Lagoon by boat, Avakas Gorge (20 minutes south by road), and Polis town. A full Akamas-and-Polis itinerary uses Latchi as base.
Bring. Sunscreen, hat, water, swimsuit, comfortable shoes if walking the coastal trails, cash for tavernas. When. May-October. May and June give warm sea and quiet bay; September is similarly fine. July-August is the busy period but the bay is large enough to absorb visitors. Latchi is the slow, sensible north-west alternative to the south coast resorts — and many returning visitors prefer it.
